Flowers - Fritillaria
Fritillaria is grown from a bulb. There are different types. This one is a giant one! It's called Crown Imperialis. This flowered end of May to June.
This was an expensive bulb, and was bought for sentimental reasons. When we moved into our house in 1979, there were lots of bulbs in the garden, including a Crown Imperialis Fritillaria. Our son was fascinated by it as a baby, because it was bigger than he was, and learned to say Fritillaria about the same time as other toddlers learned to say Tyrannasaurus Rex or Thomas the Tank Engine. Eventually it disappeared, the way that some bulbs do. So last year I bought another one, and was delighted by it flowering. I don't know if it will last more than a year, though. (It has, although I think it's getting less vigorous.)
