Flowers - Gladioli
Gladioli grows from corms. These flowered from July and August. There aren't many late summer flowers in my garden, so these are useful.
In fact, I bought the corms from a farm shop on impulse. Then I forgot all about them. I think I may have even weeded them sometimes, as they looked like a rather rampant plant that I was trying to get rid of. Then luckily I noticed the bud.
The flowers start coming out from the bottom of the flower spike, and then gradually open up the stem, dying off as they go. So you have a couple of flowers out at a time. The red galdioli fell over at one point, but this didn't seem to stop it flowering!
Since the main gladioli flowered late summer, I bought some small gladioli hoping they would do likewise. Instead they are flwoering late May. (Sigh...) Very pretty, though!
