Celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee! Most of these photos were taken by me, but some by other people.
Flyers before theparty
These were made at workshops in the weeks leading up to the street party.
This started the party!
These were made at workshops in the weeks leading up to the party. They were quite robust, and needed a lot of whacking by the children of Gwydir Street before they broke open.
There were nearly 30 cake and cookie entries, including the children's section. They got judged, and then everyone helped themselves.
We were encouraged to wear crowns, and the best crowned individual was declared to be Queen of the Street. Here we have the winner (and a Maid of Honour).
Sung, with great gusto, at the Gwydir Street Party 5th June 2022, by the local residents

Yellow Submarine (The Beatles 1966) In the town where we all liveThere's a line of houses neat And we live there happily In the place called Gwydir Street In the pub or coffee shop Meet-ups happen regularly And we all make crowns and things To celebrate the Jubilee We all live in a house on Gwydir Street house on Gwydir Street, house on Gwydir Street. We all live in a house on Gwydir Street house on Gwydir Street, house on Gwydir Street. Our friends are all close by, Many more of them live next door, And the band begins to play. My Favorite Things (The Sound of Music 1959) Neighbours who greet you from old terraced houses,Help on the WhatsApp in all circumstances, Tracking down parcels when nobody rings, These are a few of my favourite things. Chimney tops, gardens and neat window boxes, Hedgehogs and pet dogs (but maybe not foxes), Small birds that sing with the sun on their wings, These are a few of my favourite things. Mill Road cemetery for walks in the sunshine, Calverleys, Al-amin - find food in no time! The diverse community everyone brings, These are a few of my favourite things! When the bins’re out! If the drunks shout! When I'm feeling mad: I simply remember my favourite street And then I don't feel so bad! |
The Bare Necessities (Disney film The Jungle Book 1967) Look for the bare necessitiesThe simple bare necessities Forget about your worries and your strife I mean the bare necessities And don’t forget the recipes! That brings the best of our parties to life Wherever I wander, wherever I roam I couldn't be fonder of my big home The buntings bouncing in the wind Gwydir and Kingston street are twined When you look into the plates and trays And take a glance at the fancy cakes Then maybe try a few The bare necessities of life will come to you They'll come to you! Look for the bare necessities The simple bare necessities Forget about your worries and your strife I mean the bare necessities And don’t forget the recipes! Look for the bare necessities The simple bare necessities Forget about your worries and your strife I mean the bare necessities That's why a bear can rest at ease With just the bare necessities of life Now when you fill a window With fancy flowers Look out for who’s below When pouring water Don't wet your neighbour with a can When you water plants Try to please the bees But you don't need to tease the bees When you smell the perfume of the lilies; Have I given you a clue? The bare necessities of life will come to you They'll come to you! |
