Edward VII When Victoria married, her children acquired the family name of her husband, Prince Albert. So Edward VII started a new dynasty of Saxe-Coburg Gotha. He is the only king in this dynasty (see George V). Since his mother Victoria reigned for such a long time, he was quite old when he became king, and did not reign long.

Motor and horse buses In Edwardian times, motorised road transport began to be seen. If you look closely at the picture on the right, you will see both motorised and horse buses.

Victoria had had many children which married into the royal houses of Europe. As a result, Edward was related to many of the kings and emperors of Europe.

For most of English history, England had been an enemy of France. In 1904, the Entente Cordiale (French for "friendly understanding") started peaceful co-existence instead.
