Leicester museums - Space and Abbey Pumping Station

Click on a photo for a large version.

Leicester has good museums! I'm putting these two together, as they are a distance from the centre of Leicester, and are close together.

National Space Centre

Exploration Drive, Leicester LE4 5NS - Website - This museum costs money to visit. There is a planetarium (included in the entrance price), plus plenty of exhibits about space explotation. It has a cafe. First Bus 54 runs every 10 mins throughout the day Monday to Saturday and every 20 mins on Sunday running from 9.30am. The bus stop is close the National Space Centre. The museum is open 7 days a week.

This statue is outside. The astronauts is supported only by his airhose!

The museum building is rather splendid!

Abbey Pumping Station

Corporation Road, Leicester LE4 5PX - Website - This is free (except for special events). The buildings are interesting, and they contain the original beam engines, plus exhibits of history of science, industry, transport, health and hygiene. There is a pleasant area outside to sit. The museum is open 7 days a week.

A Leicester version of a TARDIS (it's a local police box).

Two clocks - both sundials. For the first one, you have to stand in the correct position to tell the time, through your shadow. The second is a Roman sundial. The time seems to be wrong, but the Romans counted the hours of the day, rather than from midnight.
