Leena, a lacemaker from Finland gave me the following information:

Language: Finnish

From Beginner Bobbin Lace Makers:

...my newest hobby, making Finnish national costumes. My first bigger work, lace for the Lemi woman's national costume headress called tanu. Lace is a little more than 60 cm.

Bobbin lace in Finland started in monasteries and was then spread out to the whole country. There are three main regions: Rauma, Heinämaa and Karelia. Bobbin lace arrived Finland in 1600-1700.

Some of the links below are in Finnish, but there are pictures.

Rauma

This is the most well known today and they are really active in keeping the tradition. Rauma is on the west-cost and has originally got influence from Germany and Sweden. History tells, that almost every woman in Rauma was making bobbin lace in the late 18th century. Thin linen yarn.

Heinämaa

This is more centrally situated and has its own style compared to Rauma lace. A little bit thicker linen yarn than in Rauma.

KARELIA

This has been influenced by more eastern lace tradition and is very different from Rauma and Heinämaa. The yarn is thicker and the lace is more like a ribbon and was mostly used to decorate aprons. Thick linen yarn.

The bolster pillow is a kötsykkä.
