Pattern from Le Pompe (simple pattern)
The top pattern is from Le Pompe (second book) published in Italy in 1562. Le Pompe is among the earliest bobbin lace patterns that we know. This pattern seems to be a simple braided lace, using 12 pairs of bobbins.
Ecah line is a plait. There seem to be two types of edge: a sharp bend with a picot, and a gentle curve. I shaped the curves with pins which appear as small holes in mine, and these aren't in the original. Perhaps the pins should be on the inside of the plait rather than between the two pairs.
The plaits cross over using a lazy join or windmill.
