I found this recipe in a WWII (replica) booklet of recipes - see bottom of page. That used dried egg and milk, which I did NOT use!

Ingredients
milk butter bread 1 tblsp sugar 1 egg vanilla (or spice!) jam or marmalade |
Equipment
saucepan spoon casserole |
oven:
time in oven: 45 minutes preparation time: heating milk and butter |

This is the original recipe. I used an oz (of butter!) because I was using semi-skimmed milk. Since the recipe was vague about temperature, I used a cooler oven, and it wasn't cooked! Nice, though. This is very similar to my bread and butter pudding, but even simpler. But still very nice! Amazing for a WWII recipe.
