The pattern book (published in 1587) describes this as the goddess of flowers, representing spring. This goddess is called Flora. She represents spring because flowers reappear then after the winter. She is holding a cornucopia or horn of plenty. This is a symbol of food and abundance, full of fruit and vegetables. Here it is holding flowers instead. The original is black and white.
