Bradshaw published the world's first compilation of railway timetables in 1839, soon after the introduction of railways. It was mentioned in many novels in the nineteenth and twentietrh century, such as the storeis of Sherlock Holmes. This is an early Bradshaw of 1843; the date is both on the title page and the almanac. It is a small book, about 3 inches by 4 and a half inches, with a pale brown cover. It gives a fascinating glimpse into an early Victorian world, without motor-cars, but with servants, and horse-drawn cabs.
