Trailer - Local Elections May 2028

It appears from the announcement of 16th July 2026 that no further elections will be held for County and District Councils, and 17 existing Unitaries. Shadow authorities elected in 2027 will take power in April 2028 with their next elections in 2032. Therefore, elections are scheduled for Thursday 4th May 2028 in 40 English Local Authorities.

1 Jan 2026	Ward review commenced in Warrington.
19 Jan 2026	Removed 6 councils in Surrey which will be abolished
4 Feb 2026	Castle Point and Rossendale are all-up. Removed Barnsley (now all-up 2026, 2030 ...).
15 May 2026	Re-organisation in Essex, Hampshire, Norfolk and Suffolk announced 25 March 2026.
23 Jun 2026	Ward review commenced in Sheffield.
17 Jul 2026	Re-organisation completed.
