Surname spelling has been standardised as EDKINS. Clement Bromley's chart has EDKYNS up to ca.1620.

The earliest record of the Edkins family appears in a Conveyer of land at Snitterfield in Warwickshire to Thomas Arden of Wilmscote dated May 16, 1501, in which Ricarde Edkynes de Wilmscote is mentioned as a witness.

Note: Clement Bromley's chart had Thomas (= Elizabeth) as the son of Adam Edkins & Ann Gibbs.
However a monumental inscription gives his birth as 1666, the same as the baptism of Thomas
son of Clement, whereas Adam and Ann did not marry until 1680, so I have moved him here.

It also showed John Smith married to Rebecca Edkins b.1682 and their daughter married
to "Clement Edkins son of Josiah Edkins of Newnham." A deed of 1699 shows that Anne Smith's husband was
Clement son of Clement Edkins, and her mother was called Elizabeth (and the dates don't fit Rebecca!)
