In 1862 John Geddes (V) married Madeline Mary Hessing (1831-1877). Madeline Mary Hessing was the neice of the wife of John Geddes (IV). They had 8 children (see below). After her death, in 1893 he married Frances Mary Green.

Stuck on the back of the third photo above is a newspaper clipping, saying "At St Peter's Episcopal Chapel. Lutton Place, Newington, Edinburgh, on the 17th inst., by the Rev. G.H. Forbes, Captain John Geddes, 76th Regiment to Madeline Mary, eldest daughter of the late J.A.Hessing, Esq."
