Bedfordshire mat
This mat has been worked in three pieces, one round the edge, one in the middle, and the filling at each end. The pieces are joined with a crochet hook. The edge part is also worked similar to tape lace, joined to itself as it is worked.
This uses scallop headsides, flowers with double tally petals and cloth stitch trails. The filling at either end is a pattern of plaits with picots.
This piece is too big to fit in my scanner (which is how I am reproducing the lace) so I can only show part of it on the right. The entire piece is photographed below to show its shape.
