Bedfordshire mat
This mat has been worked in several pieces, joined with a crochet hook.
There is a part twisted fan headside (or Cluny edge), plus some circles made in a similar way, with flowers with tally petals. Then areas made of cloth stitch and half stitch areas with raised tallies. Things are joined with plaits. Then more bands with similar stitches. In the centre, to make the oval shape of the mat, there is a single flower with tally petals, with plaits and picots on either side.
This piece is too big to fit in my scanner (which is how I am reproducing the lace) so I can only show part of it on the right. The entire piece is photographed below to show its shape.
