Maltese lace mat
This mat is made of two pieces stitched together, an outer piece with the flowers, and an inner piece including the corners.
There are flowers with petals made from tallies. There are twisted pairs connecting things, with the occasional plait. The corners have more tallies in a diagonal pattern.
This lace came from my grandmother, Violet Dibblee (nee Geddes) 1871-1961. She was in Malta from 1908 to 1911.
This piece is too big to fit in my scanner (which is how I am reproducing the lace) so I can only show pieces of it on the right. The entire piece is photographed below to show its shape.
