Tape lace - Princess lace

The flowers and the edge of this are made from princess tape, which uses shaped tapes that help imitate flowers and leaves.

The flowers are sewn onto a machine net, and there are also embroidered leaves and stems on the net. The centres of the flowers almost look like Teneriffe lace pattern, but I don't know how they were made.

Princess lace was introduced at the end of the 19th century in Belgium. This piece is claimed to be antique Brussels lace. Obviously it isn't!
