This is nothing but a simple piece of rose ground. The different colours do not show different stitches. They represent different coloured threads. The colouring scheme means that it looks like five gold rings, from the song "Twelve Days of Christmas": Five golden rings, four calling birds, three French hens, two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree.

There is one thing to watch while working this pattern, to make sure that the colours travel in the right direction. The cross-overs are always cloth stitch and twist. The stitches at the pins are usually half stitch, pin, half stitch (similar to a Torchon ground stitch stitch). This swaps over the pairs at the pin. However, in a few places, the pairs must not swap over - or rather, they must swap over, and swap back again - in ther words, cloth stitch and twist, pin, cloth stitch and twist (similar to a double Torchon ground stitch stitch). The circles in the diagram below show where this happens:
