Description:

Follow the links above for explanation of how to work the different parts of the lace.

The other 'bubble' patterns (pattern 190 and pattern 191) tried to have rows of bubbles parallel to the footside. This has the rows of bubbles parallel to the sides of the point, which seems to work better. The edge pair are plaited, which provide more of a strong edge. I didn't do any picots in the plaits. Instead, one pair pass one side of the pin and the other on the other side. For the twisted pairs which make up the inside of the bubbles, the pin goes between the two threads of the pair.

I'm quite pleased with these bubbles. They are still a bit floppy. Perhaps it would be better to make all the twisted pairs into plaits to strengthen them. It might be possible to make even more bubbles in the point. Both those ideas would mean more pairs to hide in the cloth trail, though.

This is the original lace pattern which inspired this pattern, pattern 190 and pattern 191. It comes from a book by Federico Vinciolo, published in 1587, with patterns for lace, embroidery and needlepoint. The 'bubbles' are around the edge. I left out the picots!
