There are some grey lines joining different parts of the pattern, such as the strip and the ground. The pairs need to be twisted between the pins. Sometimes this happens naturally as they leave the previous shape. But if not, give them an extra twist.
This looks like a simple pattern, but it has circles (rather than, say, diamonds). Click here to see how to do the horizontal and vertical edges.
I designed this pattern to use some thread dyed with woad. It is said that the Ancient British painted themselves with woad before going into battle, so I tried a pattern of stripes and dots which would invoke that idea. Not quite sure if I succeeded!
