This explored an idea which didn't really work. It was supposed to curve tightly to look like a Christmas tree. But I made it too big, and with ordinary cotton thread which was too floppy. But it's quite pretty, and uses a very small number of bobbins. Possibly better as a conventional roundel.

Description:
Follow the links above for explanation of how to work the different parts of the lace. The inner edge is footsides without passives.
There are different coloured pairs which are marked on the pattern. To make sure that the colour pairs goes where needed, they sometimes have to be worked cloth stitch and twist, pin, cloth stitch and twist.

The start is along a diagonal, so one pair starts at each pin. Above, I have marked where the pairs actually start. It is a bit tricky to have false starting pins for this pattern, as there aren't many pins in a scallop headside. You don't want to put in new pinholes for the false starting pins, as you are going to reuse this part of the pattern as you go round again, and they will confuse you.

This did not work as I planned (see top of page). But it still does make a helix!
