Chevrons are tricky. Half stitch chevrons (where the pattern is more spaced out) are likely to be more so. I did this pattern to investigate. The detailed discussion is on the chevron pointing downwards page.

This pattern is nothing but rose ground. However, starting the colours in the correct place gives an attractive effect.
