I grow vegetables to eat. Vegetables tend to be annuals. I grow them from seed, some in place, and some inside, then planting out. Occasionally I buy plants, if my seeds haven't worked, and I can find the plants somewhere. If sowing outside, I usually do more than one sowing. A sowing may not come up at all, or may grow weakly. Multiple sowings mean a greater chance of getting a crop, and it will be spread out over a longer period of time. I sow short rows, and usually keep the seed packet for the next year rather than trying to finish it all at once. Seed usually keeps well. Inevitably I sow seed to close together, and that means it should be thinned out (some seedlings removed to allow more room for the rest of the plants to grow).
