Bedfordshire lace collarAlthough I've described this as a collar, I think it is really the other way round. It goes round the neck, but the middle is at the front, under the chin, probably as a decoration for a dress. There is a nine pin headside. The main part of the lace has cloth stitch trailsand tallies, both raised, and as petals, and plaits decorated with picots. The plaits form a hexagonal ground. There is a cloth footside. This lace was kindly given to me. This piece is too big to fit in my scanner (which is how I am reproducing the lace) so I can only show part of it on the right. The entire piece is photographed below to show its shape. |
