Pattern 216 - Panama rose ground and diamonds

Picture of lace

This is mundillo, or lace from Panama. Click here for more patterns.

These patterns are large scale, to show where the colours go. Reduce the pattern size, if you wish. There are coloured 'blobs' at the top and bottom of the patterns, showing where which coloured pair starts where (which is very important!) I have put these at both ends, so you can work the pattern either the British way, or the other way round.

Description:

Follow the links above for explanation of how to work the different parts of the lace.

This uses two colours, pale and dark blue. The passives of the footside on both sides are pale blue. The remaining two pairs make a pattern through the Torchon ground. At certain points, they become the workers for diamonds, which then colour them. There is also some rose ground, which looks rather odd, as I think it's been worked without pins. You may choose to do this or not as you prefer - I give the pinholes. One point about one of the diamonds in the photo - I think that the lacemaker must have run out of pale blue thread, or perhaps broken one, and started a white thread in its place. One of the diamonds looks stripey!
