Description:
Follow the links above for explanation of how to work the different parts of the lace.
The diagonal start is easier with false starting pins, which are provided. The pattern is made of two parts, with the pillow turned halfway through - see making a triangle shape, from corner. The start and the finish make a straight line. This is what is sewn onto the fabric.
I mention in the description of how to work a triangle shape from a corner that a weakness of the design can be the line through the point of the corner, caused by having to turn the pillow half-way through the design. It might be nice to have a bold design in the centre of the triangle, but this is tricky. This pattern seeks to overcome the problem. Half of the cloth flower belongs to one half of the pattern. Then the pillow is worked and the other half of the flower is done. The centre of the flower is marked by a cross-over (cloth stitch and twist of the two pairs).
There are other similar flowers in pattern 58, pattern 236 and pattern 277. I designed all these after seeing an old tapestry pattern of a flower on a website - see my version of it.
I haven't sewn on this example myself, but the photo below gives an idea of what it might look like.
