Description:

Follow the links above for explanation of how to work the different parts of the lace.

Pattern of lace

The start is along a diagonal, but there are no false starting pins. Instead, the pairs are hung from pins along the diagonal defining the top of the first quarter. Those are not part of the pattern, so this means that when you finish off the lace, you remove the pins, leaving loops where you can thread the finishing threads through. There are 2 pairs at the top, as usual, but there are also two pairs between two units of rose ground. These act as half of the cross-over of the rose ground. Remember that once you have worked some lace, push in the first two rows of pins up to their heads. This keeps the start of the lace firm while you work the rest of the lace, but stops the pins catching on the threads of the bobbins.

Click here for how to finish a mat. When you get to the end, remove the first row of pins, work the last row of pins then tie off as usual.
