Pattern 61 has the petals too far apart. Pattern 63 moves the petals closer together. This pattern keeps them apart but frames them with the pink pair. The fans are half stitch, which split up the pairs. So the pink pair are not the workers. Instead they are the edge pair. At the end of every petal, this pink pair is worked across all pairs in cloth stitch and twist, pinned near the centre of the pattern, and then worked back to the edge. In fact, they behave rather like a gimp, framing the petals. However, they are a normal pair (although pink rather than white), while a gimp is a single thick thread.

I like this pattern. After all, apple blossom is white tinged with pink!
