Effects within solid areas - single twist

Solid areas are dense areas of lace, used as a contrast to the ground. Click here for different shapes available.

A solid area is worked in rows, with every stitch usually the same type. However, if the stitch is cloth stitch, it is possible to get an interesting effect by doing one cloth stitch and twist. This example is in the middle stitch of the diamond, on the middle row, using the middle passive. See pattern 451.

Single twist

Working: Work the top half of the shape as usual, in cloth stitch. Work the first half of the middle row, up to, but not including, the middle passive. Twist the middle passive pair, and the worker pair. Work these two stitches in cloth stitch and twist. Work the rest of the row, and the rest of the diamond, in cloth stitch.
