Description:
Follow the links above for explanation of how to work the different parts of the lace.
The outer stars are coloured with the worker pair, either red or green. The problem with this technique is trying to get the worker pair of the correct colour to the right place. Mostly this is done by the solid cloth shapes touching each other, so the workers can drop out of one shape and go immediately onto the next. Here the shapes do not touch. Instead, the workers boldly cross the Torchon ground. Then they hide in the passives of the cloth footside until required. Then they cross the Torchon ground again to start the next shape. There is also a red pair (on each side) which stays as passives in the footside the whole time. This was to help hide the changing colour of the footside a bit!
The top and bottom of the lace is shaped. Four pairs of white start at the top in the middle. Two pairs go straight into the lace. The other two go left and right. They work through every other pair (except the footside passives) in cloth stitch and twist until they are on the outside. They then become the edge pair of the footside on each side.
